The Improv Comedy Academy
Go U offers classes for a wide range of experience levels and personal motivations. Think you're the funniest person in the office and want to take that to the stage? Wish you could be more confident when speaking in front of others in a professional setting? Already performing and looking to hone your skills? We can place you in a class that is right for you. Taught by the best working improv teachers in town, these classes are a great way to meet new people and push yourself to do something new, fun and challenging.
The Improv Academy is broken into four programs: Intro and Advanced Improvisation,Skills and Sketch Comedy Writing. We also offer Workshops. Classes are $200 and run for eight weeks. We are now registering for the Fall semester, which begins October 9, 2010. Each class culminates in a class show for family and friends (except for Sketch Writing). Fall 2010 Semester
Intro to Improv: These classes are open to anyone, from any background with any skill set. Everyone new starts at Intro 1. Experienced improvisers should look to Advanced Improv. see classes
Advanced Improv: These classes are for those who have completed our Intro program, Level E at The Second City Training Center or a legitimate equivalent to either. Everyone starts at ADV 1. see classes
Sketch Comedy: Learn how to write, edit and polish scripts for sketch comedy. Taught by some of the finest comedy writers in the area. The first three terms would focus on style. The fourth term will focus on putting together a show from the scripts created in the program. see classes
The Skills Program is an exciting new addition to the GoU curriculum. It offers a variety of classes in theater, film, writing, and improvisation. Each semester will have different choices, so check back to see if there’s something that interests you. see classes
This fall, Go Comedy! Improv Theater and GoU: The Improv Academy are teaming up to launch GoYouth!, a program to provide improv education and entertainment for kids and teens. Starting in October 15, we will be offering Improv for Teens 1 for High School Students. The class is $150 and will run friday nights from 7-9 for 8 weeks. In the future, we will offer classes for younger kids and family friendly shows featuring local youth improv troupes.
