It all begins with an idea.

Go Comedy! Improv Theater is based on three principles: Integrity, Inspiration and Innovation. (Also known as the 3 I’s.)  We execute these principles for the benefit of the Audience, the Community and Ourselves.

INTEGRITY

“There isn't anyone out there who isn't Seymour's Fat Lady.”

Audience: Treat the audience with respect and professionalism. Help them get comfortable with improv.

Community: Teach them to respect the audience, stage, and theater and to uphold professionalism. Set them up to succeed. Help them grow into a respected community in improv, in theater, in Detroit and nationally.

Us: Lead by example. Put our best forward at all times and expect the same of our performers. Uphold the standard we set at all times, regardless of circumstances. Treat the audience with respect and expect the same.

INSPIRATION

“Keep Believing, Keep Pretending”

Audience: Engage them. Challenge them to think, create, perform, and spread the word.

Community: Instill in them the passion that got us started in the first place and the love of the craft that grew from that. Help them grow as individuals and as a community. Energize them.

Us: Remember how we got here, why we do this and what it is that makes us who we are. Remember the joy and passion and help pass it on to the next generation. Foster “A-ha!” moments.

INNOVATION

“Keep moving forward”

Audience: Give them a reason to come back. Give them something new to see. Give them something to talk about.

Community: Challenge them to raise the bar. Challenge them to challenge us. Demand imagination.

Us: Foster an environment that discourages complacency. Challenge ourselves to go above and beyond. Work to create new things that haven’t been done before and in doing so learn to appreciate failure and risk.
