Dan Brittain

Dan graduated from the Second City Conservatory in Novi in 2006, and was a member of several local troupes, including '8 people think we're cool', 'Left of Center', and 'Home School'. He was also a member of 'Swayze', which was a house troupe at Improv Inferno in Ann Arbor. After the Improv Inferno closed Dan took classes at GO! Comedy and graduated from the Advanced Improv program. This was also when he auditioned for and became part of 'The Party'. After The Party's run ended, Dan became a member of Comedy Sportz Detroit until about 2014. In 2018 he entered the 'Detroit to LA' stand up comedy competition (biggest stand up contest in Michigan) at Mark Ridley's Comedy Castle and finished in 3rd place. He decided to make the switch to stand up comedy and since then, most weekends you can find him on a stage somewhere in the Midwest. Dan has worked with Matthew Broussard, Caitlin Pellufo, Steven Rogers, Rob Little and headlines shows all over Michigan.

Before being on The Party, I had been coming to the jam every week and I had taken a couple classes. I was also running a weekly improv and stand-up night in Ypsilanti at a bar off EMU's college campus with my duo partner Alex Marr. After that, I became a ResCo member and part of a bunch of indie teams including Legend Has It, Couch Surfing, Presto Change-o, The Offbeats, and Javelin. I also directed several shows and coached the launch group Future Kids. Pete Jacokes and I co-created some 200 games and a dozen long form shows along with the help of anyone and everyone who was around for Go Labs, Beta Testing, The Gammatron, The X-Factory, and The Nebulous Project. I've been in NYC since 2017 where I've been on a few house teams, taught at a few places, and have continued producing shows on stage as well as podcasts and web series like Sounds Funny Radio, Improv FAQ, and Serious Gear.

Q: What is a standout memory you have about your time in the Launch Group?

Our coach, Matt Naas originally had us doing a Harold which takes three scenes, turns them into recurring thru lines, and then connects them at the end. And in the middle we would do a 'Busby Berkeley' where we would improvise a dance with a symmetrical stage picture. I remember one of the rehearsal spaces we were using back then was a Zumba dance studio and it just felt so hilarious and fitting to rehearse this improv form with a dance in the middle of it while we were in a Zumba with mirror walls and all. That and Go Comedy's 10 year anniversary show when we had a full line up of Launch Group reunions from over the years. Playing again with The Party was super fun and reminded me how everyone in that group is awesome and makes me laugh.

Q: What is a standout memory you have about your time in the Launch Group?

I loved it so much that I had surgery on a Saturday and still came in to perform with the group on Sunday.
